Close adult supervision is a service provided to students to access instruction and/or be safe in the instructional setting. The need for close adult supervision services is reviewed on an annual basis at an IEP team meeting. The instruments that are used to determine whether HCPSS students quality for close adult supervision services is the Close Adult Supervision Rubric and the Close Adult Supervision Request Worksheet. For each of the students, the goal is to increase the student’s capacity for independent performance and to reduce the student’s reliance on external support to participate in the learning process.

In most instances, existing staff assigned to the school provides close adult supervision. The HCPSS Department of Special Education staff is available to assist school teams to identify supports for students. However, in some cases there are students who require additional support personnel (i.e., student assistant or temporary employee) as a means to access instruction.
