Updates on MD Autism Waiver During COVID-19 and Beyond: Speaker – Sheri Weissman, LCSW, C-ASWCM

Join us to learn about important changes to the Autism Waiver during COVID-19 including:
*An extension of services for youth who would otherwise be leaving school/aging out on June 30, 2020. (Please visit our website for additional information and documents regarding this extension for transitioning youth).
*Allowances for parents to be paid for “instructional” hours
* Allowances for siblings to be paid for respite hours.
*How has COVID impacted the process of onboarding new families?
*And what about the current wait list and other challenges for families in need of services?
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Sheri Weisman is Director of Autism Services for The Coordinating Center, an organization committed to children, young adults and older individuals, as well as their family members, who have the most challenging health care needs, disabilities, and related concerns. Herresponsibilities include overseeing the case management of close to 200 children and young adults on the Maryland Autism Waiver, advocating on behalf of individuals with autism at the state level, and participating in various workgroups with the Maryland State Department of Education and Maryland Department of Health to help inform the implementation of the Autism Waiver. She also participated in a sibling support workgroup through the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council and was an initial stakeholder in the development of employment opportunities for transitioning youth with autism on the Eastern Shore. In addition, Sherri served on a panel at one of the MD Commission on Autism’s quarterly meetings and co-presented on person-centered planning with families of individuals with ASD at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Social Work. She currently serves on NASW’s behavioral health committee and co-chair the Autism Waiver Advisory Board meetings.
