The Emergency Respite Care Grants program at the Autism Society of Maryland (HCAS) was established in October 2020 through a generous grant from Howard County, MD. Grants are intended to be utilized by individuals with autism as well as families of children, teens and adults with autism during COVID-19 to provide short-term relief for primary caregivers either at home or at a provider’s facility. The maximum amount awarded is $250 annually.
Examples of Uses:
- In-home care by a caregiver who comes to your home for a few hours, daily, weekly or as needed
- A drop-off day program that provides activities
- A respite program offered by a community-based agency, residential facility or camp
- Unplanned gap in care
- Soft supports, companion, transportation, personal care
Financial: While AUSOM does not require proof of financial need, please bear in mind that these grants are intended for those who would otherwise have difficulty affording respite care.
Geographic: Grants are limited to residents of Howard County, MD.
Age Requirement: There is no age requirement for the care recipient
