The Special Education Fact Sheet from Disability Rights Maryland provides guidance to parents so they can make better, informed decisions before signing the new consent prepared in the technical bulletin from MSDE. The new law requires an IEP team to obtain written consent of a parent if the team proposes actions such as enrolling a student in a alternative education program that does not issue credits toward a Maryland High School Diploma, identifying a student for the alternative education assessment, or including restraint or seclusion on the IEP.
